Our Osteopaths
Damien Cooper | Registered Osteopath, Advanced Dry Needling
Damien is originally from country NSW and recently moved to WA to continue his journey in movement based medicine. He previously owned a successful practice in Newcastle.
His key interests are in helping his patients move better, reduce pain, and improve joint health.
Alongside osteopathic treatment, Damien is also trained in advanced dry needling.
If he’s not in the clinic, he’s out exploring WA, playing music or immersed in the wilderness.
Ashby Smith | Advanced Sports Osteopath
I’m a country boy from Vic (Mildura born) who made the move to WA in 2022. Growing up I feel like I’ve lived all over, having been in Melbourne for the 10 years prior to WA, I lived in an indigenous community in the NT for a few years and I’ve spent some years down in the surf coast of Victoria.
I’ve been an Osteo for 8 years now, after my 5 years of university study; and worked in the exercise industry for over 13.
During that time I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people and go to some amazing places. From working in hospitals in India, locum work in desert SA, the AIS in Canberra, and a few big sport teams - Currently I’m the head of Strength and Rehab at East Perth FC (WAFL).
I have a very hands-on approach with my assessment and treatment, and have further training in dry needling (similar to acupuncture), and cupping.
My main clinical passions are knee issues, the treatment of headaches, shoulder issues, rib dysfuctions, and low back pain.
I’m always striving to further my practice and through courses and further study. In 2024 I became the only Advanced Practice Osteopath in Western Australia.
Outside of work I love my sport (especially cricket) and music. I’m always up for a good chat, so if you ever see me outside of clinical hours feel free to wave me down. With my type of work I get to meet some amazing people, and I’m always keen to hear another great story.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of allied health practice that predominately focuses on improving pain by restoring movement to the musculoskeletal system.
Using a wide range of techniques such as hands-on soft tissue therapy, spinal manipulation, cupping, and dry needling, we aim to optimise your overall health by restoring how the muscles, joints, and nerves function.
All our practitioners are trained thoroughly in exercise prescription so be prepared to have some homework to take with you!
All consults can be claimed through private health. If you have a GPCCMP plan from your GP, you can claim a medicare rebate. Please note that you cannot claim both on one consult!
